Board of Director, JP Fraser of the Fort William Business District BIA, stated that “The Fort William Business District BIA is pleased to announce that the BIA is reducing our energy foot print.”
“We have added a little sparkle to the Christmas tree this holiday season in an environmentally friendly way.”
With the support of Thunder Bay Hydro Conservation, the BIA has converted over 10,000 Christmas lights in Paterson Park to light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs. We expect to save $1,500 on the lights in Paterson Park.
An additional 5,000 lights have also been converted on twinkling angels that are featured on street poles throughout the BIA area.
The BIA expects the upgrades will save the organization funding in the future, as LED technology uses less energy and lasts longer than traditional lighting.
By converting the 42 street pole Angels to LED, we are saving $100 per Angel for a total of $4,200 during the Christmas Season.
The BIA has also placed Christmas boughs and bows around the trees in our area and also Christmas boughs and solar lights on the buildings facing the Thunder Bay Courthouse on Justice Ave.
